Photo: X | BCCI Women The ICC has honoured yet another Indian cricketing sensation, this time crowning Smriti Mandhana as the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2024 for her record-breaking feats, tons, and runs that powered India to memorable victories. (More Cricket News) The Indian left-hand batter isn’t a stranger to ICC throne--Smriti Mandhana, previously clinched the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year titles in 2018 and 2022, the second player do get honour after Ellyse Perry of Australia. In 2024, the vice-captain of India amassed 747 runs in 13 innings to set new records surpassing South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt, England's Tammy Beaumont (554) and West Indies' Hayley Matthews. Mandhana etched her name in the record books in 2024 in several categories of women cricket, some of the records are: Most ODI centuries in a year: Four ODI centuries Defending champions India will now face off against China, who beat Pakistan in the first semi-final. Fastest ODI 100 by an Indian woman: 100th ODI run in 70 balls Most runs in a T20I year: 763 runs in T20Is Most half-centuries in a T20I year: 30 half-centuries in T20Is Her tally was the highest among the leading run-getters in Women's ODIs last year, way ahead of Wolvaardt (697), Beaumont (554) and Matthews (469). Smashing the most ODI centuries in a calendar year with four stunning tons, Mandhana's sublime form saw her cross the boundary over a hundred times, tallying 95 fours and six towering sixes. Scores came at an average of 57.86 and an impressive strike rate of 95.15. Some of her best innings came against high-calibre opposition, including her back-to-back centuries which guided India to a 3-0 series win against South Africa in June. Mandhana also smashed a ton in the series decider against New Zealand in October. She went on to showcase her ability to dominate the best bowling in the world with another defiant century in Perth against Australia in a losing cause in December. Despite India struggling to score runs and wickets falling at the other end, Mandhana remained steadfast on a drying wicket unleashing her array of strokes, hitting 14 fours and one six in her impressive century, which came off 109 balls. The 28-year-old Indian superstar ruled the ICC Awards in women’s cricket, making her name across many formats. Smriti Mandhana was named in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year alongside Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh.
