Djokovic is now just two wins away from a record-breaking 25th grand slam title, after coming from behind to win 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena.

The 37-year-old - who is also hunting a 100th ATP Tour-level crown - had to go off-court for a medical timeout towards the end of the first set, which had opened with the superstar duo exchanging breaks.

Alcaraz nosed in front when he clinched a decisive second break, but despite his injury issues, Djokovic rallied with a complete switch in gameplan, getting onto the front foot. He served a love game to open the second set before breaking Alcaraz with a powerful, down-the-line forehand.

A crisp backhand winner saw Djokovic level up the contest, though the highlight reel was only just getting going.

Pool A will consist of the defending champion Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB – Indian Railways), along with Indian Army – Red, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Hockey Maharastra and Hockey Unit Of Tamil Nadu (HUTN).

Some stunning tennis put Djokovic into the lead as he clinched the third set in sensational style, scampering back to the baseline to save the point, before meeting Alcaraz's return with a backhand that the Spaniard could not direct back over the net.

A remarkable 33-shot rally ended in Djokovic going long with a double-break in the offing in the fourth set, and Alcaraz then kept himself in the match with some superb net play.

Djokovic lost another long rally as Alcaraz forced two break points. But both were squandered, first by a huge slice into the crowd and then by a slick forehand winner from the Serbian, who went 5-3 up.

Alcaraz held easily to move back within touching distance, but Djokovic would not let it slip on his serve.

An overhit Alcaraz backhand teed up match point, and a low shot into the net from the 21-year-old ended a contest for the ages in Djokovic's favour.

Data Debrief: More Djokovic delight at the Australian Open

While Alcaraz's wait for the career Grand Slam goes on, 10-time Australian Open champion Djokovic is closing in on history, and he will go up against Alexander Zverev for a place in Sunday's final.

Djokovic has now reached 50 semi-finals at the majors. Only one other player, male or female, in the Open Era has appeared in more (Chris Evert, 52).

He has equalled Jimmy Connors (91.7%) for the highest men's singles winning percentage at the Australian Open in the Open Era (minimum 10 matches played).

His victory also saw him win his 300th set at Melbourne Park, where he is into a 12th semi-final. Only Roger Federer (15) has appeared in the last four at the tournament on more occasions.

Djokovic has now won five of his eight clashes with Alcarazbet88, including all three on hard courts.
