There have been rumours of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali collaborating with Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil. The Amar Singh Chamkila director finally confirmed his next with Fahadh in a directors' roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter India. He also revealed the film’s title. 

During the interview, when Imtiaz was asked about the film, he said, “This announcement is out, but it’s like a little ahead of its time. There is a movie, but I don’t know, it might not be the next one up. But, yes, I’ve been trying to make this film for a long time. It’s called The Idiot of Istanbul.”

When he was further asked if Fahadh would play the lead, Ali said, “I would like it…yeah. I would love to do this. And now, since you’ve cornered me, I don’t know why I’m not supposed to say this. But yes, my plan is to make this film with Fahadh.”

Defending champions India will now face off against China, who beat Pakistan in the first semi-final.

Earlier in the match, a raucous crowd gave the Chinese players full support as they faced a formidable Pakistan. The game started slow with both teams struggling to find space in each other's defence. However, China kept control of the ball and made more attacks than Pakistan.

Fahadh Faasil is already a big name in the Malayalam film industry. He has also forayed into Tamil and Telugu films as well. The Idiot of Istanbul will mark Fahadh’s debut in Hindi.

Reportedly, the film will also star Triptii Dimri alongside Fahadh. It is said to start shooting in the first quarter of 2025.

Fahadh was recently seen in Pushpa 2: The Rulemango win, co-starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna. Prior to that, he was seen in Aavesham, Bougainvillea and Vettaiyan. His upcoming lineup of projects include Don't Trouble the Trouble and Oxygen in Telugu, and Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, and Karate Chandran in Malayalam.
