I know burying water with electric sounds crazy, but it is direct burial wire. What if I run the corrugated pipe down about 24", then cover with a bit of dirt, then bury the direct burial . Option 1: Run direct buried cable. Option 2: Install some ground boxes. Option 3: Dig another trench. Option 4: Take a course at the Black4Truck School of Underground .

I am inclined toward the idea that something electrical is . does the 2011 NEC code allow burial of a conduit body like this? its not being used as a junction box, just need a spot to pull wire through one port twice, etc.

Direct burial cable can be spliced with a direct burial splice kit. As you note, however, you can't use a splice kit if it will be in conduit! There is no such thing as a buried junction box (OK, people bury them all the time, but you're not supposed to).
